Things to Do in Warsaw
Old and New Town
Śródmieście is Warsaw’s city centre district and it is the most ‘metropolitan’ part of Warsaw. Here you will find historic buildings in the Old Town as well as a forest of skyscrapers.
Royal Castle
The Royal Castle is the former seat of the rulers of Poland. Go inside and look at the royal apartments and the Throne Room. Pay attention to original paintings by Rembrandt and the canvases of Bernardo Bellotto!
Royal Łazienki Museum
This vast garden is a favourite place for Varsovians where they go for long walks amid beautiful nature and architecture to rest from the hustle and bustle of the city. At the heart of the park is the summer residence of the last king of Poland – Stanisław August Poniatowski.
Palace of Culture and Science
One of the highest and most recognisable building in Warsaw can be seen from almost every part of the capital. It was opened in 1955 on the initiative of Joseph Stalin as a “gift of the Soviet people for the Poles”. Currently, the palace is home to theatres, a cinema, museums, trendy pubs and the main Warsaw Tourist Information office.

A Taste of Warsaw
Borsch: There are many varieties of borsch: horseradish, sorrel, and Ukrainian (with vegetables), though the most popular type is made with beetroot.
Żurek: This soup is quintessential Polish cuisine. It is made of meat broth leavened with rye sourdough and served with a boiled egg and white sausage.
- Dumplings: Balls of potato dough sprinkled with pork scratchings and fried onion.
Herring Warsaw-style: It is served in many different ways, consumed in times of fast or as an ordinary daily meal. The best herring is served in oil.
- Pierogi: there are so many varieties of this traditional dish: with meat, cabbage, mushrooms, fruit, potatoes, cottage cheese or grits. New types have also appeared: with feta cheese, spinach or mozzarella. You simply have to have pierogi on your menu!
